Surf’s Up at Lamar CISD Fundraiser May 6

Summer is on the horizon and with it, Surf’s Up, Lamar CISD’s most popular and delicious fundraiser. The luau-inspired event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds.

Tickets are on sale now for the event which benefits the Lamar Educational Awards foundation (L.E.A.F.). The $35 ticket includes general admission, live entertainment by "The Emotions Band," themed activities and delicious food. Rounding out the event is Surf’s Up’s legendary live cake auction. The competition is fierce to take home favored decadent sweet treats.

Established in 2000 to benefit the students of Lamar CISD, L.E.A.F. is a non-profit organization that provides funds beyond the normal operating budget for educational programs and activities for students and staff.

The money raised at Surf’s Up will help fund grants supporting innovative projects submitted by teachers and staff over the summer. In January, the “Grant Express” —composed of district administrators, community partners and L.E.A.F. board members — travels throughout the district by bus to surprise teachers in their classrooms with checks.

This year, the Grant Express surprised 80 LCISD teachers and staff with $205,327 in classroom innovation grants, including cultural immersion activities and science dissection stations.

Over the past 23 years, L.E.A.F. has raised more than $47 million to fund teacher grants and district-level programming such as Camp Connect, Girls on the Run, STEAM Camp, scholarships, Special Needs Prom, New Teacher Dinner and Family Connect initiatives.

Young Veranda students attend excellent Lamar CISD schools and benefit richly from the creativity of their teachers. Purchase your ticket and come out for food and fun. We’ll see you there!
